Public and Private Professionals Working Together in Emergency Preparedness and Disaster Response

Who We Are

Training and Education:  Timely topics are provided at the monthly MEMA meetings.  In addition, regular meetings give members a valuable opportunity for networking with other professionals.

Resource Sharing:  Sharing of individual expertise as well as educational material, media tapes, and other information is encouraged.  Cooperative purchasing and distribution of material is also a benefit of membership.

Public Awareness Campaigns:  Activities are coordinated and designed to disseminate consistent and timely information related to emergency management.

Disaster Response Teams:  MEMA members are available to lend their expertise in disaster response and recovery to any Minnesota agency that requests assistance.  In recent years, MEMA members have assisted with the Red River valley flood and the St. Peter/Comfrey Tornado.

Multi-jurisdictional Activities:  MEMA sponsors a variety of multi-jurisdictional activities including large-scale exercises and training efforts.

Monitoring and Supporting Legislation:  MEMA provides an opportunity to collectively affect issues of concern to emergency management.

Cooperative Efforts:  MEMA provides an open environment in which public and private sectors may discuss common issues relating to disaster preparedness and response.
