- The crew cut is one of the most widely worn hair cuts all over the world. The exact origin of the term ‘crew-cut’ is a matter of conjecture. But it is widely thought it may have originated as a reference to a similar haircut that was worn by members of the then popular Yale rowing crew. That would have been somewhere in the late 19th century, during the industrial age. But the exact origins of the name notwithstanding, what is widely accepted is the fact that it came from that age (specifically the 1890s) – and went on to become a ‘phenomenon’ in a few decades.
